Summer Internships w/ Center for Civic Engagement

from Kim at the Center for Civic Engagement:

Hello DTC students!

Below are listed several organizations/agencies which have expressed interest in having intern assistance with their websites and/or other technical efforts this summer (and/or beyond). Most of these may be able to be implemented from a distance so that you would not need to be geographically located in the specific community.

Please review the list and let me know as soon as possible, if you would like to pursue any of the options. If so, we will arrange for you to contact the organization and explore the details of the specific work desired and to see if it meets with your personal academic goals and areas of expertise. You would be welcome to talk with more than one.

1. Council on Aging and Human Services (Pullman) – Construct a new web site for the organization AND teach the staff to use it going forward.

2. King County Conservation District – Develop interactive database for Conservation Districts training opportunities.

3. College Hill Association (Pullman) – Construct website designed by Fall 09 DTC 477 students.

4. Franklin County Extension (Tri Cities) – revise website.

5. 2 Degrees NW (Moscow) – design a website.

6. Snohomish County Extension (Everett) – update website, including addition of blogs and videos.

7. Community Child Care Center (Pullman) – revamp/modernize website.

If you would like to know more about any or all, please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks very much!

Kim

Summer Web Internship (edit:POSITION FILLED 4/25)

This project is great for someone who wants to build their portfolio, needs a little extra money, and doesn't mind working alone.

In short, Professor Nancy Bell in the WSU English Dept needs this site redesigned:

http://www.aml.wsu.edu/facultysites/EnglishLearningCenter/index.html

Professor Bell says,
"The site is designed to be primarily a place for students who are taking ESL (english as a second language) classes in the English department to use to find resources to help them with writing in and out of class, and also for teachers in our program to use as a place to share materials they’ve developed. In addition, though, faculty across the university might come upon the site in their search for support for ESL students in their own classes and it will eventually have links to workshops that might help them that are posted on International Programs site, and any other resources that might be available on campus.

As such, I’d like to take the content that’s there and put it into a more identifiably-WSU format. I’m hoping for something that identifies us as part of the institution, but without looking “institutional” – I think this is especially important as I want it to look appealing to the students who will be its primary users."
